Experience autumn at its most spectacular in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Known for their towering 14,000-foot peaks, golden aspen groves, and cinematic backroads, this corner of southwestern Colorado is widely considered one of the finest fall photography destinations in the country .

This is a fully guided, 2-instructor, small-group experience limited to 10 photographers, giving you an intimate 5:1 instructor-to-client ratio and personalized attention throughout every shoot.

During the workshop we'll explore some of the most iconic and photogenic landscapes in the San Juan Mountains — places that define what Colorado fall color looks like at its peak. We move locations each day based on conditions, color, and light, keeping the experience dynamic and ensuring we're always in the right place at the right time.

Our shooting locations may include:

  • The Million Dollar Highway — the breathtaking drive between Ouray and Silverton, with panoramic mountain views, dramatic drop-offs, and golden aspen forests lining the route
  • Last Dollar Road — one of Colorado's most scenic backroads, with sweeping views of Mount Wilson framed by glowing aspens
  • Dallas Divide — wide-open meadows and snow-dusted peaks, a classic San Juan fall photography location
  • Mount Sneffels & Mount Wilson — towering 14ers that define the skyline of the San Juans, perfect for sunrise and sunset compositions
  • Owl Creek Pass & Chimney Rock — cinematic terrain rich with texture, color, and mountain character
  • Ouray & Telluride — two of Colorado's most  beautiful mountain towns, surrounded by fiery fall color and rugged canyon walls

Lodging

Lodging is included at the Twin Peaks Lodge and Hot Springs in Ouray, CO and transportation to all shooting locations during the workshop is provided.

The workshop starts in Ouray on October 1 in the afternoon.  You may wish to come in the day before to ensure you are on time for the start.

The last date to cancel and receive a refund is March 1, 2027.  After this date a refund is only possible if we have someone on the wait list able to take your place.

NCPW STRONGLY suggests purchasing travel insurance.  Make sure any policy you get has a trip interruption component and will cover workshop tuition fees if you end up needing to cancel.

Transportation during the Workshop

Transportation to all shooting locations during the workshop is taken care of — so you can focus entirely on your photography. You are, however, responsible for your own transportation to and from the airport and for any personal needs during the trip.

For this Workshop

Weather - We will be at higher elevations and the weather can be cool to cold. Because we are up early and out late, you will need to make sure to pack layers and good outerwear.

Physical Exertion - Most of the workshop is pretty easy in way of exertion, but you may need to walk distances equalling about mile round trip.
